Janessa Ardon

Janessa Lyzette Ardon is a Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist working in painting, drawing, video, and photography. Her practice investigates identity, memory, and self-perception, with a focus on how personal history, environment, and social experience shape the formation and understanding of self. For fun, she recently began a food study series, experimenting in painting with a wide range of materials and processes, exploring unconventional approaches and playful, hands-on techniques.
Rooted in painting, Janessa uses mark-making, texture, and material processes to reflect emotional states and lived experiences. She also explores memory and heritage through personal objects, domestic spaces, and inherited materials, revealing aspects of experience that are not always easily articulated through language.
As her practice develops, she experiments with expanded approaches, including video, projection, and installation, to extend questions of identity and memory beyond the painted surface.
Janessa holds an HBA in Arts & Media Management and Studio Arts from the University of Toronto (2025) and is currently pursuing an Interdisciplinary Master of Arts, Media & Design (MFA) at OCAD University.
